A soup for a sweetheart (Split Peas)

 by Za

Azoul,

This is a meal I’d like to dedicate to Camy. It seems to be getting colder in her city in France and what else than a hot flavourful soup would be best to warm her blessed sweet cheeks JJ

If this manages to draw a smile on her face, then my heart will be gladdened J

This recipe is extremely simple. It’s also one of my favourites. (I usually make it after a period of feeding on junk! (to deceive myself into believe that I’m making a effort to balance between healthy and unhealthy food. Thus go back to eating rubbish again as soon as the feeling of guilt is weakened) …

So, here we go,
bismillah

All you need is a bunch of veggies (healthy stuff yeaaaah) .. it’s soup (duh!!)
I always make it with chicken. (minced meat works just as fine)
So, what I put in it are the following:

  • Potatoes (a big fat one/ or 2 medium ones
  • Onions (a big fat one/ or 2 medium ones)
  • Carrots (half carrot)
  • Courgette (1big or 2 small)
  • Tomatoes (1 only .. and it’s optional.. I didn’t put any
  • split peas (measure = half of the British mug)
  • Mint –Fresh or dried (just a small bunch .. about 4 or 5 leaves - optional
  • A bit of parsley (optional
  • Chicken /or meat (optional)
  • Vermicelli (optional)
  • Cheese = grated cheddar/gruere or portion cheese (la vache qui rit diced -yum) is also optional

Alright
Put the chicken in a bit of oil to stir fry and release it’s taste and flavour. You could add a tiny bit of cumin if you want.
(salt)

Flip it over and around continually till it’s golden brown

Add the vegetables. Let them simmer a little bit.

Add your split peas and stir

Add water till everything is covered
After 20 minutes or so .. when you have checked that everything’s cooked.

Shred the chicken once you pull it all out of the casserole

Boil some vermicelli. Sieve, and add it + the shredded chicken + cheese to the blended veggies.

Olive oil- Smile

Bsahatkom ( = Enjoy = Bon appetit)

  1. PS: to be consumed with toasted bread.
  2. PS: Split peas absorb a lot of water. so don't worry if it gets dry or extremely thick. You can just add more water or milk if you prefer. keep in the fridge.
